In our previous edition we promised highlightening What each of the 23 LGAs can give to Rivers State as related to sports.
It is true that Rivers State is a blessed sports state, yet the sports administrators did not enhance the potential each LGA can give or contribute to the growth of sports in the state.
Like the Kenyans, they zero down on their natural God given potentials in long distance race and today the world adores them. Same Rivers state could cue up and make the difference if we do know the potential each LGA posses.
Take for Abua/Odual, Ahoada West and East, Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro LGAs, these LGAs can help Rivers State to have serious and gifted athleties in the following areas, wrestling, boxing, weightlifting, javelin, shot-put, Discus, mile race, soccer because of the natural deposition in these local government as related to food nutrients.
Andoni, Akulga, Asalga, Bonny, Degema are all LGAs that are potentials sportsing LGAs, the riverine position they occupy are blessing to Rivers State in sports. Swimmers, wrestlers, soccer, boxers, canoeing, diving just to mention but a few. Rivers State is lacking sports men because the sports administrators do not pay attention to enhancing each local Government economic and natural potential of these LGAs. Almost each of the LGAs have potein in abundance. This is good for sports.
Mention one LGA in Rivers State and Rivers State would be found wanting in sports?
Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Etche, Omuma/Obio/Akpor, Okrika, Oyigbo, Emohua, Khana, Ogu/Obolo and Gokana you found a blend of swimmers, wrestlers, boxers, sprinters, weightlighters, soccer stars, canoeing, divers just name the sporting events and each local government has it strength in one or two of the sports.
The Okrikans for instance are known and described as fish and they also contribute effectively in the area of soccer and wrestling as well.
What of the Elemes, Khanas just mention them. Rivers State is a sporting state based on it geographical location in the Niger Delta.
The Newswriter wish the sports administrators understand this and dwell and enhance the potentials of each LGA, Rivers State would be the state to best in sports in the Nigeria federation in sports. ###
