International Organization Of UN Volunteers Holds Summit

Ibele community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State at the weekend hosted the International Organization of United Nation Volunteers as it held its annual summit.

International Organization of UN Volunteers is a United Nation accredited Non-Governmental Organization that focuses on UN Volunteer status and its education to the masses.

According to Meshiyach Cosmos Yahzitere Okoh, the President General of the body, Ibele Community was chosen for the great summit as being the natal home of the founder and leader of the body as well as the positive response by the youths of the community who voluntarily registered en-mass into the database of United Nation Volunteer roaster as United Nation Volunteers – as organized by the body.

He maintained that from the first quarter of this year, many youths of the community have registered as UN Volunteers through the effort of the organization.

The leader of the organization enlightened the attendees of the summit of the necessity of enlisting in the UN Volunteer roaster as such enhance status, helps to refocus people towards the acts of volunteerism or humanitarianism.

According to Meshiyach (Amb) Okoh, the act of the volunteerism is the only appropriate method that must usher in expected human development, societal order, justice and equity in the human society.

Regarding the failure of capitalism and its attendant greed and selfishness, Chief Okoh summarized it this way – “The entire world has chosen capitalism against easy going socialism and welfarism, the result to such choice is that corruptive tendencies are raging high daily. People think less of others well being and comfort because all struggles boil down on how to perpetual selfish even if requires strangling of this next person around – This is unhealthy for the new world order”.

The organizational leader asserted that for men to be keepers of their brothers, the United Nation came out with the act establishing volunteerism and making it part of it activities.

He said that by the UN act that establishes volunteerism, a roaster of accredited volunteers are kept with intention to involving them on assignments at international and local need.

He maintained that the description of work experience is a key source of information for UN Volunteers when matching profiles against assignments. By real date the UNV annually register more than 50, 000 individuals interested in volunteering but may annually deploy only 2000 to various assignments.

The leader posited that those volunteers that were not involved in UN assignments can equally use the enhanced status locally to help in their domiciles and report to UN through that updating of their profile.

Contributing in his speech, Amb (Rev) Godwin Wuru who is the convener of the organization of World Peace Ambassadors (a UN Accredited NGO) adviced youths to embrace volunteerism as such worthy habit may change the chemistry of the present day lifestyle that is embroiled by greed and selfishness.

He thanked the people of Ibele land to have embraced volunteerism ahead of other communities in South-Eastern region.

The organization equally thanked the traditional ruler of the community – His Royal Highness, Eze Rufus Anyanwu – Achazie IV for his worthy leadership in the community.

The summit was graced by members of the organization, associate bodies, youths, students and populace from the community and beyond.

Some worthy volunteers were enlisted into the UNV roaster.
