A prominent politician and the political leader of Degema District, High Chief Bebe Owubo Jacob has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to urgently move into Bille Kingdom in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State to investigate while so much abandoned projects are in the area.
High Chief Bebe who made the call at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, alleged that some contractors handling some of these projects, “after being mobilized with millions of naira are now abandoned the projects and ran away”.
High Chief Bebe who is also the Rivers West Senatorial Coordinator of Mu’azu Support Group for Greater PDP, said that more than twenty-two (22) community development oriented projects have been abandoned by the “heartless” contractors. The total cost of the abandoned projects according to him, is more than N725.6m.
High Chief Bebe, the political leader of Ward 16 PDP in Bille kingdom and the Agbani-Jike 1 of Niger Delta mentioned some of the abandoned projects and their contractors. They include: Construction of Cargo Boat (Benson Omolo Nig. Ltd), Modern Communication (T&Tees Electrical), Construction of Youth Secretariat (Owiapu Enterprise), Overseas Scholarship (GES Integrated Services Ent.), Installation of Solar Power for Bille Water Scheme (Robinas Global Services) Rehabilitation of Water Treatment Plant (Robinas Global Services) and several others.
The ex-Niger Delta freedom fighter, however told newsmen that the water project was awarded to one Mr. I.N.C. Herbert, “but because he does not have a registered company with Shell, he used someone’s company – Robinas Global Services, adding that one Mrs. Likeness Ibim Diri with a company name Ibidiri and Sons Ltd, was awarded a contract to construct Spectators Stand Phase 2, but after collected the money the project was abandoned.
High Chief Bebe had earlier praised the management of Oprisco Services Nigeria for the completion of the Low Cost Housing Phase 1-3 at Oruama and Touma. He also commended Evidence Integrated Services for the completion of the Low Cost Housing Phase 1-3 at Jikeama. He advised other contractors to follow their footsteps to avoid embezzling community money. ###
