RHSA: Evans Bipi, Ikuniyi Ibani Battle For Speaker

In June 2015, the 8th Rivers State House of Assembly, RSHA will be inaugurated. The 7th State Assembly under the leadership of the embattled Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Dan Amachree is rocked with so much crisis.

July, 2013 violence erupted in the RSHA, that led to the destruction of property estimated at millions of naira in the State Assembly complex.

Hon. Chidi Lloyd, a lawmaker representing Emohua constituency in the RSHA made a dangerous attempt to murder a colleague, Hon. Michael Chinda of Obio/Akpor Constituency II”.

A lot of unimaginable things happened in the embattled Dan-Amachree led Assembly. Before the permanent closure of the Assembly complex, Hon. Evans Bipi of Ogu/Bolo constituency and four (4) other lawmakers namely: Martins Amaewhule of Obio/Akpor constituency 1, Kelechi Nwogu (Omuma Constituency), Michael Chinda (Obio/Akpor constituency II), Victor Ihunwo of Phalga Constituency II made a move to impeach the Speaker. The impeachment moves, however ended with chaos and political upheaval, which divided the Rivers political class into different segments.

Our investigations revealed that as the new RSHA is about to be inaugurated, Evans Bipi of Ogu/Bolo Constituency and Ikuniyi Ibani of Andoni Constituency are making secret moves to pick the position of the speaker.

Hon. Bipi has started contacting other elected lawmakers, soliciting for support. However, Hon. Ibani is also making a similar move through his political god father, Prince Uche Secondus to be considered for the position of the speakership.

Bipi’s chances of becoming the speaker is very slim as he said to have come from the same Senatorial District with the governor-elect. Some other things are also not in his favour, which include inability to communicate proper and lack of administrative acumen.

While Hon. Ibani has being perceived as the best man for the job. According to political pundits, after sixteen (16) years of democracy, the RSHA needs vibrate leadership. They urged Hon. Bipi to drop the ambition of speaker saying that he cannot given the House better leadership.

Meanwhile, sources informed this weekly that the position of deputy speaker has been zoned to the Orashi region.

Bipi now anchored his hopes on Senator Thompson Sekibo, and the wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Goodluck.

Information reaching our political desk, revealed that Bipi has been asked by power brokers within the ruling party to drop his ambition.###
