Pledges to Unite all Political, Interest Groups

Rivers State Governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, has pledged to unite all political and interest groups in the state to usher the state into an era of accelerated development.

Wike spoke on Sunday at a thanksgiving service organised in his honour by Epirikom Patriotic Forum at the Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Rumuepirikom.

The governor-elect was at the service with his wife, Justice Suzzette and their three children.

He said he would assume the role of father to all residents of Rivers State as governor.

He reiterated that the days of politics were over, noting that the state would move into the days of governance and transformational leadership.

The governor-elect assured the people of the state that he would take immediate steps to ensure that the courts re-open for judicial service as a fundamental way of maintaining law and order amongst the populace.

He added that Rivers people should put behind them the days of electioneering and look forward to the dividends.

His words: “I will serve as a father to all. We are done with campaigns and this is the time to unite and deliver dividends of democracy to our people.

“One of my first tasks is to ensure that the courts are functional again. We need the rule of law for a peaceful and responsible society. We also need to get our judges and lawyers back to work.”

Earlier, the Rector of Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Rumuepirikom Deanery, Venerable Richard Okpara, said the emergence of Wike as state governor-elect was God’s design to liberate and prosper the state.

He urged the governor-elect to work tirelessly to develop the state as the expectation of the people were quite high.

The governor-elect was accompanied to the thanksgiving service by the deputy governor elect, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo; recently elected senators, House of Representatives members and State Assembly members.
