Jaja Hails Newly Elected Rivers NLC …Says The Voice Of Labour Can Now Be Heard

SAM JAJAThe former chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Rivers State Council, Comrade Sam Accra Jaja, has congratulated the newly elected executive of the state NLC, led by Comrade Prince Ada Williams, as the chairman.

In his congratulatory message, the Chief Executive Officer of Sam Jaja Foundation, charged the Ada led executive to extend their olive branch to other members of the state union and to go about their duties without fear or favour.

He noted that the emergence of the new labour in the state will provide a platform for the voice of union to be heard in the state, again. Jaja further urged the new administration to see the welfare of every Rivers worker as paramount in all their activities.

Responding on the development, the newly elected chairman of NLC, Rivers State council, Comrade Williams lauded the gesture of Jaja, describing his administration and that of Adams Oshimhole as the best in the history of NLC, adding that labour union in Rivers State has never been the same, since after Jaja.

The labour boss promised that his administration will follow the legacy that was left behind by Jaja in the state and promised not to let down the workers of the state. He assured of making judicious use of their tenure in office, to promote and protect the interest of every Rivers worker, through better welfare packages, amongst others.

Ada, who described the in-coming administration of Wike as one that would have a listening ear, promised to constructively engage the new government for the interest and benefit of all Rivers workers. He further affirmed to bring back the lost glory of Rivers NLC, after Jaja, which then, according him was the envy of both workers non-workers in the state.

It would be recalled that Hon. Justice O.Y. Anuwe, presiding judge of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Owerri, Imo State, had on the 21st of April, 2015 ruled on an Order of interim injunction, restraining Comrade Mrs. Beatrice Itubo and 4 others (defendants) on a suit no: NICN/Ow/33/2015, which states in part: “UPON THIS MOTION EX-PARTE dated 15th April, 2015 coming up before me today the 21st day of April, 2015 praying this Honourable Court for the following Order(s).

“An Order of interim injunction retraining the 1st Respondent from nominating, electing or presenting herself as representatives of the 2nd Respondent to the 3rd Respondent state delegates conference and election of 23rd April, 2015 or any other rescheduled date either as a delegate to the said conference or contestant into the executive council of the 3rd Respondent pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice”, amongst other 5 prayers.

The said matter was between: Comr. (Chief Elect); Samuel E. Isijana Owurong & 7 others as Claimants and Comr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Itubo & 4 others as Defendants. It was however alleged that the bailiff, who went to deliver the court injunction to Comrade Itubo was held hostage and manhandled for hours by the security at the office premises, day before the factional election was conducted.
