Rivers Artisan Fishermen Get New Exco

The Rivers State chapter of the Artisan Fishermen Association of Nigeria, ARFAN gets a 15 man new executive that will pilot its affairs in the next three (3) years.

The executive members are: Rev. Peter Dumpe (chairman), Lt. Abiye Davies (rtd), (Vice chairman), Comrade Billy Harry (Secretary) Mr. Chukwu Rowland (Asst. Secretary), Pst. Ukpai Christian (Fin. Secretary), Mrs. Ayiba Wigwe (treasurer), Mr. Osaki Lawson (Asst. Treasurer), Ms Rhoden Ned Mark (Fin. Auditor), Ms Trene Amadi (Asst. Fin. Auditor).

Others include: Engr. Marcus Jombo (Publicity Secretary), Mr. Sunday Wekulom (Asst. Publicity Secretary), Mrs. Tonye Micah (Marketing Officer), Evang. Pamela Paul (Asst. Marketing Officer), Mrs. Nwambo Patience (Production Officer), and Mr. Athanasius Friday (Asst. Production Officer).

Inaugurating the state ARFAN executive officers on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the National President of the association, Bishop (Dr.) Godknows Nifeipiri enjoined them to discharge their duties effectively without fear or favour. He stressed the importance of agriculture in the development of a nation, adding that any country that wants to develop economically should not toy with food production.

Bishop Nifeipiri who decried the increasing rate of sea pirates, which according to him frustrating the efforts of the fishermen and called on government to provide security along the rivers and creeks. He had earlier called for government’s support so as to boast food production in the state.

Responding the chairman of the Rivers ARFAN, Rev. Peter Dumpe thanked the association for the honour done him and other members of the executive. He promised that they will discharge their duties well.

In his speech, the secretary of the body, Comrade Billy Harry applauded the National body of ARFAN for finding them worthy to serve at the state level. He felicitated with the Commissioner for Agriculture, Barr. (Mrs). Onimim Jacks for her appointment and pleaded for assistance, to tackle the challenges facing the association.

Comrade Harry added that no nation exists without agriculture.   ###
