Andoni LG: Blood Flows In Oyorokoto

Four persons were reportedly killed at the famous largest fishing settlement in the sub-Africa Sahara region, Oyorokoto in the Andoni Local government Area last weekend.

The incident according to residents of the area occurred between 12 midnight through 2.00am when unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers invaded the settlement, killed four young men and carted away some outboard engines worth millions of naira.

Community source which pleaded for anonymity told The Newswriter crime desk that the gunmen were initially suspected to be members of a rival cult group, but indications emerged that victims of the attack were all confirmed non-members of any cult group in the area.

Incident of either cult attack or gang robbery has been a regular occurrence at Oyorokoto fishing village as such the residents have always lived in perpetual fears of death or losing their hard earned properties to hoodlums.

The Newswriter source recalled how similar incidents occurred between June and July 2014 in the area were souls were loss and many sacked from the village.

According to the source, the local government authority had met with leaders of the Oyorokoto community to proffer security solution to the residents but all to no avail.

It would be recalled also that residents always flee the community to Ngo town, headquarters of the LGA for their safety since all efforts to curb criminality in the settlement by residents met brick walls, but what the community advocates for following the recent resumption of criminal attack is the presence of government, the source said.

Commenting further on the indiscriminate task on business and women in the settlement by known and unknown cultists in the settlement, the source maintained has posed another source of worry to the residents who are contemplating measures to implore for the safeguard of their operations.

But what the source could not ascertained was the hideout or residence of the cultists who daily task businessmen and women.

Meanwhile efforts to have the opinion and position of the LGA chairman, Mr. Victor met the brick walls as he was reportedly said to have been away from the country.

Oyorokoto is said not to be in the news in recent times for anything good but criminality and evil tendencies even as residents are on the receiving end.

However, the people are calling on the government to urgently come to their aid and rescue since one of the responsibilities of government is to protect lives and properties of the citizenry. ###
