We Are Not Cowards

map 2Nigeria is a conglomeration of several city states. Many nations with different cultural and religious background came together to form a country called Nigeria.

Today the country is made up of thirty-six (36) States with Abuja as a federal capital territory.

The modern Nigeria emerged in the year 1914 when the Governor-General then named Lord Sir. Fredrick Lugard amalgamated the northern and the Southern protectorates.

Nigeria is one of the largest nations in Africa, hence it is popularly described as the giant of Africa. Nigeria has so much opportunities both human and material resources, that made it qualifies to be at the front seat in the world affairs.

Thus I believe in an indivisible Nigerian nation. Though several persons predicted that Nigeria will cease to exist after 2015 general elections, but here we are. Thank God for the prayers of the church.

It would be recalled that between the year 1967 and 1970 Nigeria as a nation passed through turbulent period, as the country was thrown unto thirty (30) months of civil disturbances. Nigerians went through hell, people died and properties destroyed. Gen Yakubu Gowon (rtd) and others fought gallantly to keep the nation one. God blesses this nation with resources, but it is very clear that ninety (90) percent of the revenue feeding this country is a proceed from the crude oil sale. The leadership of the country has relegated agriculture to the background.

The crude oil is deposited more in the Niger Delta region of the country. Sadly, no government in power since the independent of the country in 1960 has the interest of the Niger Delta geo-political region.

The people of the region are poor despite their contributions to the growth of the country.

Proceeds from the oil were used to build big cities, including Abuja leaving the Niger Deltans in poverty and penury.

The injustice in the Niger Delta has propelled several revolutionary activities including kidnapping and vandalization of oil pipelines.

Jobs meant for the Niger Deltans are taken over by non-indigenes, as a result of this, militancy becomes the order of the day.

Considering the way and the manner in which President Muhammadu Buhari is administering the country it appears that there is no hope for the Niger Delta region.

The President should know that what we need is total development of the Niger Delta region or resource control. We will not keep silent until we achieve our goal. President Muhammadu Buhari should also know that the Niger Deltans are not cowards. We are not afraid to fight for what belongs to us. ###
