Joseph-YoboThe Governor of Rivers State, Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has appointed former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, son of the soil, Senior Special Adviser of Sports development to Rivers State governor.

Joseph Yobo, just few days ago has concluded his 100 cups and retirement testimonial football match at Port Harcourt, precisely, Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium.

Yobo was also honoured with a chieftaincy title in his country hometown Kono in Khana LGA, just after his retirement of testimonial match from international football.

Governor Wike in reward to hardwork and experience appointed Joseph Yobo into his cabinet as to contribute to sports development to Rivers State government in the area of sports development.

Yobo himself is contented with the appointment and had accepted the appointment without hesitation.

The former Everton star will be concerned about advising the governor on general sports development and not football alone, as Yobo is a known and celebrated international footballer.

With this appointment, the former power and aggressive defender in the arch of the Super eagles and Everton defence line will be part and parcel of the decision making cabinet of sports development in Governor Wike’s cabinet.

The appointment of Yobo as senior special Adviser to the Rivers State governor is one appointment prove to be many more encouragement to the  youths of Rivers State, meaning, if any youths of Rivers state identify himself, Governor Wike is very much pleased and ready to encourage and reward him in any chosen career as a sports man or woman.

It is not then wrong for one to describe the government of Wike as a sports or talent encouraging government due to the government life-style of sports and talent encouragement.

Just couple of months, Bro Felix Obuah, also known as Go-Round, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) organized a under 17 secondary school Athletics championship 2016 in partnership with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter which involves the 23 LGAs of the state.

That championship is the first sports meet organized by an individual in this part of the world. But without the support and approval of the governor of the state, that athletic meet would have not been possible.

This is where the governor Wike’s administration should be given kudos for its concern for youth talent and sports development. ###
