Goodbye Barr. Ken Atsuwete

Fears gripped residents of Rivers State on Monday as armed assassins abducted and murdered a Port Harcourt based human rights activist and lawyer, Barr. Ken Atsuwete. The sudden death of Ken Atsuwete came to us as a big blow. His services are needed more at this time, when Nigeria as a country is searching for men of impeccable character and integrity.

Until his death Barr. Ken Atsuwete was a social crusader, a Minister of God and the voice of the voiceless in the state. In the past few months, the people of the state are witnessing different kinds of horrible crimes ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, killings to violence.

No state can develop in the atmosphere of insecurity; hence if the increasing rate of crimes in Rivers State remains unchecked without controversy investors will avoid coming into the state do businesses.

We condemn the gruesome murder of this legal luminary, and plead with the Rivers State government and relevant authorities to provide logistics support to the police and other security agencies to enable the Police Command unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Ken Atsuwete and bring the perpetrators of the evil act to book.

Let us use this medium to also plea with the various registered political parties in the state not to politicize the painful death of Barr. Ken Atsuwete.  ###
