As schools Resume

Education is the bedrock of development in any society. No nation grows beyond the level of its education. Any country that wants to advance technologically and scientifically should not toy with its education.

Education brings enlightenment and exposure, especially at this time of economic crisis across the globe. And without quality teachers, conducive environment and adequate teaching aids, education cannot stand firm.

As school resume in Rivers and other parts of the country after a long vacation, it is expected that government at all levels must put everything in place to ensure that there is a smooth take off of the new academic year.

Our worry is that most states have not paid their teachers; this no doubt will have negative effect on the school system. Besides, non-payment of teachers’ salaries, most of the public schools are dilapidated and also without desks, begging for government intervention.

It surprises us in this 21st century pupils and students are still sitting on the floor to study. In such condition the process of teaching and learning would be distorted.

Most public schools also lack libraries, if at all they exit, are stocked with obsolete books that no longer aid learning. However, some schools laboratories are absence, hence students find it uneasy to offer science subjects. How can a nation advance technically when our schools’ libraries and laboratories are empty?

It is our prayer that as the schools resume government should do everything possible to ensure that nothing creates crack in the 2016/2017 academic year. We wish our students both new and returning a successful school year. ###
