Sanitation Authority Sets To Organize Environment Programme

The Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr. Ade Ade Ogun said the authority has concluded its determination to embark on an enlightenment programme on clean environment exercise across the state to reduce poor sanitary condition and improve cleanliness in the state.
Mr. Ade-Ade Ogu gave the assurance while in a chat with journalists shortly after monitoring this month’s sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt.
The sole administrator, who noted that the influence of people and heaps of waste littered in the state have defaced the city, stressed that the situation required more commitment in the sanitation exercise. He urged residents of the state not to wait until government force them to clean their environments but that they should rather inculcate the habit of cleaning their environments on daily basis to maintain high clean environment in the state.
He warned the people of the state, especially those residing at Rumuola and Rumuomoi axis to desist from dumping their refuse in the lake situated at Timothy lane, Rumuola in Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State.
Mr. Ade Adeogun, who noted that the lake was where fishes are trained, expressed dismay that government investment has been threatened by the dumping of waste on the lake. He urged them to evacuate the refuse and assured providing more dumping sites in the state for dumping of refuse.
He expressed delight on the huge success of this month’s sanitation exercise, especially in Diobu, for their commitment in the exercise, assuring them that the present administration under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi will provide them with the equipment to evacuate their waste in the area and enjoined people of the state to be more committed in the exercise.
In his speech, Hon. Bright Amaewhule, a councilor representing Obio/Akpor ward 2 in the Obio/Akpor, Legislative Assembly, decried government’s inability to embark on the dualization of Rumuomoi, Oroshi road, Psychiatric Hospital and Rumuigbo after awarding the contracts for two years.
According to him, after marking some of the stores for demolition, as a result of the dualization of the road, the landlords found it difficult to rent their stores because the investors are afraid of having their stores demolished by the government.
Hon. Amaewhule however called on the government to quicken the dualization of the road to attract more investors in the area and commended the sole administrator of sanitation authority for ensuring clean environment in the state and assured his people’s cooperation.
Meanwhile, about forty-one (41) defaulters of sanitation exercise have been arrested during the sanitation hours.
Mr. Nmegbu Ugochukwu, the head of operation, RSESA, disclosed this in Port Harcourt while in a chat with journalists. ###
