PH: NBA Moves To Expand Its Law Centre

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch has concluded arrangements to renovate/redevelop the current building housing its law centre. To that end, the association last Thursday in Port Harcourt launched a N80m Appeal fund to actualize its dream.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Iche Ndu, who was represented by Hon. Justice Peter Agumagu President Customary Court of Appeal, pledged support for the project. He described NBA Port Harcourt Branch as a pacesetter and thanked the Judiciary for donating the land where the current law centre is situated.

In his speech, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Wogu Boms, Esq said donors in the construction of the current law centre will remain immortalized. He advised that the building project should be executed gradually, so long as the target of expanding it is realized.

Also speaking, the Renovation Committee Chairman for the project, Granville Abibo (SAN), charged NBA members and friends of the Association to donate generously to the project, noting that the founding fathers of the law centre have paid their dues and the onus is now on the present generation to improve on what has been left behind for them.

Earlier, the chairman of NBA Port Harcourt branch, Lawrence Oko-Jaja, Esq said the overstretched, ICT centre, library and leaking roof of the law centre call for urgent attention. He said at inception, the law centre was accommodating about 1,000 of its members, but the membership strength currently has risen to about 4,000, hence the need for expansion.

The NBA State Boss said the aim of the project is to add another floor to the existing structure, with a view to upgrading the facilities in the building. He therefore urged all their members and well-wishers to donate generously to the project, to ensure its actualization. ###
