Uniport Alumni Chairman charges Electoral Officers to conduct Transparent election… as Alumni sets to hold election

The Electoral Committee Officers of theUniversityofPort Harcourt Alumni, have been charged to conduct free, fair and transparent election in the forthcoming association polls slated for October 30, 2011.

 

The Chairman of the Uniprt Alumni Association, Prof. O. M. Ndimele, gave the charge shortly after the election of the electoral committee officers at Hotel Presidential inPort Harcourt, recently.

 

Prof. Ndimele further advised the body to seek the opinion of members of the Alumni since advices were necessary and encouraged members to participate fully in the forth coming election.

 

Prof. Ndimele frowned at the Alumni members who were unable to support the association, especially those who are in government, pointing out that it was only Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Governor of Rivers State and Chief Timpreye Silva, the Governor of Bayelsa State, who were supportive to the Alumni and urged other members to follow suit to enable the association achieve its  target of supporting the University of Port Harcourt to build a law faculty, law library and other Alumni targets.

 

The Uniport Alumni Association Chairman who noted that it was a challenge to lead people of his class, outlined some of his achievements, such as improvement of membership, advising students on career, conduct, receiving and encouraging of Uniport students contingent that won the NUGA game for the institution, among others.

 

He charged the incoming executive of the Aumni to strive hard to ensure that they changed the venue of their meetings to a cheaper venue, make their meetings quarterly, mobilize members, among others.

 

The Electoral Commission Committee Chairman of the Alumni, Prof. Ibitamuno Aminigo, promised to conduct free, fair and credible election in the forth coming Alumni polls.

 

Meanwhile, the Alumni association members have unanimously resolved that for a member to be qualified to contest the Alumni elective office, he/she must be a registered member, pay annual dues of at least six months per annum, as well as attend meetings three to four times a year. ###
