Tension, Anguish in Ogu/Bolo … As Youth Council Beats Boy To Death… Reprisal Attack Imminent

There is palpable tension in Ogu/Bolo LGA of Rivers State as some ex-militants in the area are planning more reprisal attack on the Community Youth Council who appears to be in charge of security in the area, over the sudden death of a youth who was allegedly beaten to death over an offence.
According to our source, the victim simply known as ‘Easy boy’ who was an ex-militant, was accused of insulting a Youth Corper serving in the area. When he was reported to the Community Youth Council, he was sentenced to 80 strokes of the cane, in a mobile court which was immediately executed on his bare buttocks. But midway into the punishment, the suspect fainted and started passing blood from his penis.
This however did not stop the punishment. When the executors were finally through, he was further dumped in their private cell and refused medical attention. When some persons including the council chairman Dame Maureen Tamuno intervened, the youths demanded for N2,000 bail fee.
But at a stage when his captors realized that the situation was getting worse, they reluctantly released him for medical attention at a nearby Ogoni community clinic where he later died.
His death led to a reprisal attack by his colleagues, the ex-militants in the community.
Some persons received severe injuries as a result of the attack
The matter was then reported to the police at this point. ###
