The Insurgency Called Boko Haram

Citizens of a country should revolt through peaceful demonstration or strike when they feel the government has not given them fair treatment.
Militants that suddenly rose from the south-south part of Nigeria felt that they had been denied of their rights that they were suffering in the midst of national endowments (crude oil, gas etc) given to them by God, government intervened when they sent their representatives that aired their grievances. The matter was resolved and amnesty was granted while peace was established.
Recently, a sect who called themselves Boko Haram, arose from the northern part of Nigeria, their mission is: bombing churches and communication centres among other targets.
The question now arise, “What is the focus of their grievance? Nigeria is a multi-tribal and cultural nation with two major religions.
In a situation where a sect from a particular religion attacks the other religious groups, what do we call it? Do we call it religious war?
