Electricity For All By December 2013

Electricity which is defined as a form of energy, produced in various ways  provides power to devices that create light, heat, etc. since the invention of electricity in the world life has taken another positive dimension. Indeed, posterity would not fail to remember Michael Faraday the father of electricity.

The world today can no exist or do without electricity. The nations of the world have seen the importance of it to economic and technological breakthroughs. The advancement of science and technology in the world today is as a result of invention of electricity. Poor or rich nations are working hard to improve their electricity generation to power their heavy devices that can not function without electricity.

Industrialized nations like the USA, China, Japan, Russia and the United Kingdom can not abandon or play with provision of electricity to their citizens. Here in Africa, South Africa is improving on her energy generation to power their machines in their industries. It is worthy to note that no industries or manufacturing industries can produce optimally without electricity. Industries can not survive or make profits in a nation where electricity is epileptic. And it is the responsibility of government to make electricity available and accessible to people. Some months ago, the federal government made a public declaration to be one of the biggest economies in the world. The year 2020 is around the corner; and the journey to fulfilling the vision starts now. It is a good policy statement if the implementer should stick to the policy and vision of Nigerian government. Enough is enough of developmental slogans. Now comes the time when every policy or vision of government should be a mindset and be enshrined at the tablet of our hearts for effective implementation of the power projects. The present administration headed by the erudite scholar and amiable President Goodluck Jonathan has thrown open a challenge to Nigerians. The Power Ministry is seen to be the forerunner. Few months ago the Ministry Power was thrown into confusion of contracts scandals which led to the resignation of Prof. Barth Nnaji as a minister. This is because the power ministry must direct where Nigeria is going to in terms of economic, scientific and technologic break through. The President few weeks ago sworn in three ministers including the new minister of Power Prof. Nebo. The federal government of Nigeria from all indications is putting machineries in motion for December 2013 target. Indeed Nigerians, need improved power supply and rural electrification. As most of the rural communities do not have access to electricity. The generation of 5,000 mega watts in view by the government, should not be played with if December 2013 is the target. It is obvious that the federal government can achieve the set target if politics of self aggrandizement does not play in. Nigerians do not wish or expect any probe panel after December 2013. Therefore, all those in charge of the process should not see the contract as avenues to amass unnecessary wealth over night to the detriment of Nigerians expectation come December, 2013. This government must be sincere to Nigerians as nobody is ready to listen to any probe panel report of what is not done.

The national integration power project should not be allowed to pass the same ugly event of the past where funds were made available to contractors without execution. It is the prayer of every Nigerian for this government to succeed in its projects. The government must as a matter of urgent issue begin to implement and monitor the power projects.

The December, 2013 target of improved electricity generation is achievable. The Nigerian economy would only improve when there is constant power supply in the country. Enough is enough of lip service. The time of reality has come and Nigerians should support the government in reporting erring contractors who are out to sabotage the vision and policy of this government. All the sub-injection stations should be ready to key in with the National integration power projects.

Above all, the food processing industries, manufacturing industries and research institutes need constant power to add to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). If Nigeria as a Nation must be one of the biggest economies in the world, then there must be industrial, scientific and technological revolution through massive power generation. And power supply should be major priority of this present administration. If indeed the policy statement is any thing to believe in, this is not time for rhetorical question of where Nigeria is heading to. Already the federal government has made its intention and vision known to Nigerians and the world. Nigerians expects constant electricity supply come December, 2013. Yes it can be achieved by the federal government; therefore all hands must be on deck. ####
