Meshiyach Yahzitere Okoh Bags UN Peace Award

The city of Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State went agog on 21st March, 2013 as the International Association of World PeaceAdvocate, an assemblage of accredited United Nations Peace Volunteers celebrated the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in the world and award presentation.

The historic occasion attracted many dignitaries from the country with inclusion of a commissioner who represented the executive governor, Barr. Seriaka Dickson who was unavoidably absent.

In his welcome address, Ambassador Emmanuel Nkweke who is the International Spokesman of the association described racial discrimination as hatred of one person by another or the belief that another person is us.

On description of his association, Amb. Nkweke said, “As we converse on elimination of racial discrimination, it is imperative to inform this audience what our organization stand for. The International Association of World Peace Advocate as a reputable entity, especially in creating the awareness of United Nations observance Day at grassroot levels and  in  turn connects people back to the United Nations people whose stock in trade has to do with the promotion of global peace beginning from their local communities. “Think locally and Act Globally”.

Amb. Nkweke maintained that the people that are meant to receive the award as World Peace Ambassador or Justice of Peace are men and women with impeccable, flawless and faultless character, whose contributions to peace had made their immediate society, state, and local community a better place.

In his speech, Col. (Dr.) Samuel Inokuba who was chairman of the occasion said the stories of racial discriminations and segregations are one that all the people are familiar with.

Col. Imokuba recalled some monumental historical occurrences involving man’s discrimination against his fellow man based on the colour of his skin or different racial stock as found in Anti-Semitism in Hitler’s Germany.
