Embrace Peace, Okaye Urges Rumuji Community

 

Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Charles Okaye has called for harmonious relationship between Companies and their host Communities to enhance the development of their area. Hon. Okaye gave the indication in a meeting he convened to broker peace between Saipem, Total Nigeria limited and Rumuji Community in Emohua Local Government Area of the State. He urged them to avoid the act capable of causing further discord among them and enjoined the community to give maximum support to the companies operating in their area. Hon. Okaye noted that there cannot be meaningful development if they continue to divide themselves. The Commissioner advised them to sustain the peace that has been brokered: “keep the peace, respect the government, if you maintain peace, you are honouring the government that has ensured that peace strives.”

Hon. Okaye commended the youth for the manner they had conducted themselves all through the crises period and advised them to maintain the tempo. Speaking, the Public Relations Officer, Total Nigeria Limited, Mr. Izu Nduoku urged the Community to always think and act as one to reap the benefit of their operations, he noted that Total is happy that the issue is finally resolved. Similarly, the Representative of Saipem Nigeria Limited, Mr. Innocent Ogbu commended Hon. Okaye for taking the bull by the horn and assured that Saipem will implement all that is contained in the Memorandum of Understanding.

In his vote of thanks, the Secretary, Traditional Rulers Council, Rumuji Community, Oha Lambert Njoku on behalf of the community thanked Governor Chibuike Amaechi for appointing hon. Okaye as Commissioner, describing him as a square peg in a square hole. Mr. Njoku commended Okaye for being patient and meticulous in resolving the dispute and promised, that Saipem and Total will operate peacefully in Rumuji and added that all court actions will be withdrawn. ####
