Effect Of Dirty Politics On Nigeria’s Development

Nigerians are eager for purposeful development of the country. It is obvious that the expectations of teeming Nigerians have been hampered or truncated by the practice of dirty politics. For many years activities of few individual politicians have become clogs in the wheel of development of the country. The structures of government that suppose to sanitize the corrupt administration are weakened.

When the government that supposed to put things in the proper situation is dirty what do you expect in the country? In Nigeria when a wicked man is working with the rich he is clean. It is also a fact that when a man wants to exercise his own freedom in a country where politics is called a dirty game he is intimated. The country transition and transformation trend is basically an academic work where papers are presented to the audience for applause. It is sad to note that in Nigeria citizens are not given their right until they swear affidavit from a law court. The corrupt tendencies and self aggrandisement  of the leaders is because politics is called a dirty game. And many corruption cases are in law courts across the country. The question is how many were convicted to ten or twenty years imprisonment? The duty of fighting corruption in Nigeria is to cause development to take its pride of place in the country. But it is very unfortunate that the

agencies made to fight the menace are influenced by the government. Hence, the duty and effort of anti-corruption graft agencies are under pined.  Indeed, it is worthy to alert the public that most of the impeachments that take place in Nigeria is as a result of dirty politics. The governor would not allow the duty governor to have a free air. And in turn the president would not allow the vice president to have a say. In the same political party, the president elected under the platform will use the opportunity to intimidate or coerce governors. The dirty politics played in Nigeria has beclouded the visions and policies of the government.

Failure to achieve regular power supply in Nigeria since independence is as a result of dirty politics of implementation.

Indeed, Nigeria politics centres on self and not on the principles of politics. Everything is getting messier and issues in government get unfolded. The contracts scam that is common in the country is treated with kid gloves. There are so many contracts abandoned for many years without real probe to ascertain the cause of abandonment. The approach to issues of urgent public attention is unpredictable in recent times.

In recent times the unfolding dirty political activities in the country is causing serious apprehension of how 2015 general elections will look like. The political uncertainty in Rivers State is a clear case of dirty politics in Nigeria. Nigerian politicians are economical with truth of what is happening within the corridor of power. In 2005 or thereabout, there was political imbroglio orchestrated from Abuja that saw the exit of the first civilian governor of Bayelsa.

Indeed, because of politics is a dirty game, many Nigerians had no time to assess and investigate the antics of politicians. The fact is that all kind of bizarre and unfounded allegations will be levied against the perceived stubborn elected leaders. The effect of dirty politicking is cancerous and is causing under development of the country. If the process that brings leaders in is dirty, invariably the leaders are dirty themselves.

Award of contracts to contractors is also done in a questionable manner that citizens cannot question.

The system of politics in Nigeria is worrisome considering the way political leaders carry out administration policies. The mindset that politics is dirty in Nigeria should be quickly erased from our memory to avoid severe negative effect on country.

The effect of dirty politics is glaring in Nigeria. Citizens must rise against the threat and effect of dirty politics in Nigeria.2015 general elections are yet to come but the level of apprehension in the country has diverted attention of government from the people. It is time for the Nigeria electorates to stand their chance against dirty politics that has bedeviled the country for too long a time.

It is worthy to note that dirty politics is played with bitterness. Dirty politics has led to the death of many people in Nigeria. The independence of Nigeria is matured enough to give room for credible politics in the land. It is only good political policies that can redirect the pace of substantial development in Nigeria.

Therefore, it is high time to shun dirty politics that is in tandem to under development.
