128 Lecturers Join RIVCAS

The Rivers State College of Arts and Science, RIVCAS, has ended its 3 days induction and orientation programme held at the School Conference Hall to acquaint the newly inducted 128 lecturers on the workings of the school.

Presenting his address, Dr. Hillary Wordu, the School Provost, recalled that the college was established as the Rivers State School of Basic Studies in 1977, offering remedial programmes.

He recalled further that the school became a diploma awarding institution by virtue of Edict No 12, 1991 and attained a polytechnic status with effect from 1st October, 2006.

Wordu expressed delight that the school has been granted permission by NBTE to mount about 8 courses, including HND programme, which its first graduates are participating in the mandatory NYSC programme.

Dr. Hillary however, charged the new inductees to remain committed to excellence and observe zero tolerance to all shades of vices which the school is known for among others.

He thanked the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, the school visitor for the approval of their employment request and insisted that only the best were recruited. The Provost also commended members of the 6th Governing Council, under the leadership of Dr. Mrs. Soba Wilcox.

In their respective presentations, the School Registrar urged the newly employed to begin to save for the rainy days from the day of their induction, adding that retirement was not meant for death, but to retire and remain relevant in the society.

While Mrs. Selem Amachree, charged the new employees not to join union as an avenue of warfare with employer, but as an avenue for dialogue and negotiations on rights and privileges. She further urged them to continue to aspire further in their academic pursuit.

Responding to journalists at the end of the event, Arc. Ipalibo West, one of the newly inductees, expressed satisfaction on the out come of the screening exercise that brought them to be part of the school and further lauded the State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi for his support of taking the school to where it is today. ###
