Daewoo Shut Down Over Workers’ Protest

Industrial and commercial activities in Daewoo, a multinational have been paralyzed following a protest staged by its worker

The protest which took place at the company site, Eleme LGA on Wednesday, the angry workers barricaded the entrance of the firm.

This publication gathered that the protest was engineered by the management’s refusal to recognize the workers’ union known as National Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers, (NUCECFWW), inability to send the elected officers of the union for induction and failure to call for negotiation.

Speaking to our correspondent, the chairman of the state chapter of NUCECFWW, Comrade Temple Morford condemned the non-challant attitude of the firm towards the insensitivity of the plights of the workers.

Comrade Morford said that the union is totally against the casualization of workers, saying that the era of slavery is over.

“I cannot understand, why an indigene of a country will become a casual worker in his country. That is wickedness and an evil plan”, Comrade Morford said.

He disclosed that in no distant time the union at the state level would embark on protest against casualization of workers. ###
