Open Letter to New Rivers CP

police man of riversFirst and foremost I welcome you whole heartedly to Rivers State, the “Treasure Base of The Nation” and also the state of “hospitality,” where no man can distinguish a stranger from an indigene. A state of equal opportunities. It is a wonderful state.

Prior to your posting to Rivers State, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu was incharge of the State Police Command. Since the creation of Rivers State in May 1967, Mr. Mbu became the most criticized Commissioner of Police served in the state.

His tenure was characterized by accusations, counter accusations and series of petitions. Due to his absolute display of professionalism and inability to take side in the lingering political crisis in the state, some self seeking political began to poor venom on him.

During Mr. Mbu’s tenure as a Commissioner of Police, Rivers State was free from crimes, except the ones perpetuated or instigated by politicians. No true Rivers man is happy with Mr. Mbu’s transfer, because of his peaceful activities in the state.

Mr. Mbu is a police officer that believes in equity, justice and fair play. He works within the ambit of the laid down rules and regulations.

As you resume duty, I know that politicians will soon come to you and poison your mind against their opponents or non-supporters. Please sir, be careful of them.

It will be very unhealthy for the state, if you take side while executing your statutory functions.

I will plead with you to also ignore any advice from “evil politicians” that will tarnish your image.

I am writing this open letter to you because we may not meet to discuss this, considering your tight official schedules.

But be it known unto you that there are politicians who are wolfs in sheep’s clothing that will soon appear in your office at Moscow Road to feed you unnecessary information to indict their perceived political rivals. Looking at your profile without any doubt I strongly believe that you can deliver and give the Rivers people the needed security.

I pray the Almighty God to give you the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the Rivers State Police Command so as to create peaceful environment that will be conducive for all residents, irrespective of their political inclination or affiliations. Once again I say congratulations and welcome to Rivers State. ###
