RSG Partners Navy On Security

Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has reiterated Government’s determination to secure lives and properties across the State especially on the waterways.

He stated that the State Government would give the Nigerian Navy, the Joint Military Task Force (JTF), the Marine Police and other security agencies the needed support to ensure the safety of sea travellers especially during the forthcoming elections.

Governor Amaechi stated this when the Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, recently.

Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, the Governor noted, “years ago, security on our waterways was a difficult task, but with the help of the Navy, the situation was tamed,” adding ”this administration will continue to work hand in hand with them in ensuring that the waterways remain safe across the State”.

Speaking earlier, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola of the Eastern Naval Command said that he was in the State as part of his familiarization tour of all units under his command and to assess their combat readiness and operational efficiency in tackling security challenges especially in the Gulf of Guinea.

He stated that the Command under his leadership will collaborate with other security agencies in working out modalities to ensure that the forthcoming general election would be done in a proper and conducive atmosphere, adding “we promise that movement on the waterways during the election and after would not be a threat to the people of Rivers State”.
