Stop These Nonsense Killings In Rivers State
The major responsibility of every government is to safeguard lives and properties. Moreso, human life is sacred; hence nobody has the right to take one’s life. Also the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has regard for human life. Every citizen has the right to life.
In the past three (3) months all is not well in Rivers State as the residents experience on daily basis killings in different parts of the state.
As a result of this negative development residents of the state are living in perpetual fears. There is no part of the state that is safe. Businessmen and investors have started moving out of the State.
Some Communities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area are theater of war, while in Ahoada East and Ahoada West LGAs have been a battle ground for cultists and hoodlums.
Ogonis have frequently being exposed to cult wars, military invasion and other related social vices.
On Saturday five (5) persons were allegedly murdered in the Andoni Local Government Area: Due to the insecurity in the area, the Caretaker Committee CTC, chairman of the LGA, Hon. Victor Ere had since imposed a dusk to dawn curfew.
We appreciate the executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for his prompt visit to Yeghe community in the Gokana Local Government Area shortly after an alleged military invasion. The Wike’s visit to Yeghe community will in no small measure give a sense of belonging and security to the people of the area.
No responsible government will sit down and fold its hands and watching at its citizens killing one and another. Government must intervene in such situation.
However, we are not satisfied with the way and the manner in which the security agents are tackling the killings and other atrocities committing in the state.
Let us at this moment call on the relevant authorities as a matter of urgency to bring their wealth of experience to bear by beefing up security in the nooks and cranny of the state so as to curb the increasing wave of killings in Rivers State. ###
