NAFDAC coordinator in Cross Rivers State, Pharm. Isaac Kolawale, said that the product was impounded in a warehouse in Calabar after a complaint by the manufacturer of the product (Benny Foods) about fake brand of their products being circulated in the market.
‘We swung into action and our investigations led us to a warehouse where the products were stored and were eventually put on hold”, he stated. He said that all attempt to arrest the culprit failed as he abandoned the products and disappeared.

He said “from January, 2015 till now, over 170 sanctions and administrative fines has been meted out to companies and establishments including sachet water factories for violating NAFDAC standards” He commended NAFDAC group members who have been carrying out campaigns and sensitizing the public on NAFDAC activities and need to patronize only NAFDAC registered food/drug products.
The state coordinator said that the absence of NAFDAC from the border post has led to the penetration of spurious products from Cameroon into the country; he, however said that the state office is working closely with other sister agencies such as SSS, customs and NDLEA to check the ugly trend.
He called for the cooperation of the people in assisting the agency in its onerous task of safeguarding the health of the nation. ###
