Court Nullifies Oyigbo Ward 8 Election

Following the controversy that trailed the Local Government council election in Oyigbo Council of Rivers State, and the subsequent election petition for tribunal’s review of the matters therein, the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt over the weekend nullified the election result of Ward 8 and ordered for a fresh one within 45 days.
This pronouncement caused spontaneous mixed reaction from political analysts and party supporters alike.
While the PDP supporters jubilated due to the fresh opportunity the development has afforded them to mobilize all within their power to recapture the Ward from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and non-indigenous elements, the later on their own part are expressing sadness that their frustrated victory which has been eventually nullified might slip through their fingers for ever going by the determination of the cabal which are against the non-indigenes affront in the area.

You would recall that Hon. Sunny Williams Igwenze defeated his counterpart, Hon. Chijioke Azu at the PDP party primaries but was frustrated out. This development angered the non-indigenes who mobilized and urged Sunny to cross carpet to APGA and contest the election with Azu.

He eventually won with overwhelming majority as the non-indigenes saw it as a challenge.
However, he was not allowed to take his seat, which forced him to the court of law. Despite the tribunals restoration of his stolen mandate, the council chairman, Hon. Felix Uche Nwaeke refused to swear him in and instead went all out to frustrate the court order and maneuvered for an appeal which eventually nullified the result offering both parties fresh opportunity.
