Ogoni Land Remains Part Of Nigeria – Sen. Nunieh

Elder statesman and Second Republic Senator, Barrister Cyrus Nunieh has identified with the position that Ogoni remains indivisible under one Nigeria, just as he commended the visit to President Goodluck Jonathan.
Senator Nunieh who stated this when he received Senator Magnus Abe, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, at his Port Harcourt residence, said “we as Ogoni people are not pulling out of Nigeria as being alleged, we are in Nigeria and for Nigeria”.
Rather than opt out, he maintained that the Ogonis would seek better placement in the Nigerian polity, remediation of its polluted environment and creation of Bori State.
The Senator who decried the level of pollution in the area described the situation in Ogoni land as one of the worst in the world and urged Senator Abe to through his good office fast track the remediation exercise.
While commending the encouraging and quality representation the senatorial district enjoys under Senator Abe, he advocated the establishment of a special university in Ogoni land that will address the environmental challenges in the area.
Senator Nunieh described Abe’s visit as momentous, saying it was one of the happiest moments of his life, and enjoined him to continue to see himself as not only a political leader in the district but fulcrum shouldering the area.
Earlier, Senator Abe said the visit was to intimate the elder statesman on the outcome of the Ogoni meeting with President Jonathan.
“I feel it is important that I should see you in person, pay my respect and greet you” he stated, adding, ”I am so happy to see you looking so well and so young”.
Senator Abe used the visit to solicit Nunieh’s fatherly advice,” anything you think we can do, or anything you think we are not doing right as you usually do, feel free to call us and say that this is where we are going wrong and this is where we can improve”.
The senator assured that the Bori State project which the elder statesman is the chief promoter was already on the table of the Senate, and would be adequately addressed by the Constitutional Review Committee.
