It is often said that the proper time to describe and possibly tackle a snake is when it has completely come out of the hole. For Boko Haram, now that its madness has gotten to the stage of attacking innocent and defenseless journalists, what that simply means is that their end has come. Otherwise how do we reconcile the fact that a sect that lacks agenda, focus and direction will now see the Press that is supposed to be the protector of all as its greatest enemy that requires extermination? If the media is wiped out, God forbid, who will make the case for Boko Haram and its sponsors?
It is ridiculous, as it is incredible for anybody or group to perceive the media as an enemy. Even in the heat of militancy in the Niger Delta that devastated the oil rich region and mesmerized the entire nation for upward of three years, it is on record that no journalist was killed by the feuding parties. Boko Haram should enquire about the fate of one notorious criminal called Osisikankwu of the blessed memory and his group in the South East who after terrorizing the entire zone with criminal activities, went ahead to kidnap some journalists who were discharging their lawful duties. It is said that when a dog wants to die, it no longer sniffs the ordour of excreta . The end of the so-called dreaded Osisikankwu was so swift after his atrocities against journalists. He was not only arrested, but rooted and exterminated by the FG. Boko Haram’s case would not be different.
It is an established fact that the animal that has no tail, God in his infinite mercy drives flies for it. It has been said severally by so many authorities and from many quarters that Boko Haram does not have agenda, otherwise why should somebody or group of persons wake up one morning to say that western education is evil and the same people are using the state of the art technology of the West to unleash mayhem on innocent Nigerians? We are aware that the bombs, guns, cars and just name it, used daily by these faceless group to perpetrate havoc against their fatherland are all products of western education. You can now appreciate the reason why we say that this group has no agenda. They are free of course to prove us to the contrary with verifiable evidence.
But we advise them if they are really Nigerians to find a better way of prosecuting their grievance . For it is said and rightly too, that anybody that tears his mat will definitely sleep on the floor. If Nigeria is destroyed by omission or commission where will Boko Haram or any aggrieved group stay to agitate its rights. We will not allow this to happen. We therefore posit that any group with clear cut agenda and genuine grievance should approach it in the most civilized manner and that is through dialogue. Violence has never been used successfully in any part of the world to solve problems and Nigeria cannot be an exception. We urge Boko Haram and its sponsors to sheathe their sword and give peace a chance for the betterment of all. Time they say waits for no one. ####
