Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of Nigeria’s President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has lost her step mother, Madam Iwari Oba to a ghastly motor accident along Elele axis of the East-West road in Rivers State.

The late Iwari was said to be traveling from Port Harcourt to Bayelsa when the sad incident occurred.

Mrs. Jonathan who was on a foreign trip abroad was said to have cut short her tour of Switzerland and return home when the news reached her.

The late first lady’s mother was said to have died on the spot at the scene of the accident, while her driver was critically injured.

The governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson has condoled with the First lady of Nigeria, describing the incident as “a great blow and irreparable loss to the first lady’s family and the nation as a whole”.

The governor lamented that her motherly advice will be greatly missed.

He noted that Mrs. Iwari’s demise has occurred at a time when the first lady and her family needed her support mostly.

Hon. Dickson urged Mrs. Jonathan, her family and the Oba family of Okirika in Rivers State to accept the unfortunate incident as the will of God.

He prayed that God grants the first lady the strength to bear this irreparable loss.

The police in Rivers State has confirmed the death, saying that investigation into the incident has commenced. ###
