Delga Politicians Shun Tonye Harry’s Burial

HARRY IN CHIEFTAINNotable politicians including ex-lawmakers and former council chairmen from Degema Local Government did not attend the burial ceremony of the erstwhile speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Late Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry, a reliable source hinted The Newswriter.

The reason for their refusal to attend the funeral ceremony of the late speaker is not known but impeccable sources attributed it to what they call, “insincerity, craftiness and highhandedness” of the late state parliamentarian in handling the affairs of the Degema constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) since 1999.

The sources told our correspondent that Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry performed below the expectation of the members of his constituency while in the RSHA.

According to them the late speaker has not really economically empowered people from the Degema constituency after spending close to fifteen (15) years in the Assembly.

Serious minded politicians from Degema instead of attending the funeral rites of Rt. Hon Tonye Harry at Obuama (Harry’s town) attended the chieftaincy installation of Hon. Ibinabo Michael-West, a former member of the RSHA, who represented Asalga constituency II.

A top politician in Degema who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that no true politician, from Degema Local Government Area can boast of the late speaker.

According to him, nobody from Degema Local Government enjoys Tonye Harry’s leadership while in the RSHA, “that is the reason why most of the politicians from Bakana, Tombia, Ke did not attend the burial because we do not want to pretend.” ###
