Rivers PDP Primaries: Obuah, NDDC Director, Others Escape Death

obuahThere was pandemonium at the Federal Government Technical College, Ahoada, the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers West Senatorial District primary, as some funny looking young men with bare body stormed the scene to disrupt the party primary.

The young men who tied round their bodies with charms, amulets and talisman arrived the venue of the primary at about 4:30pm shortly after the delegates from Abua/Odual voted.

The dreaded looking young men who forced themselves into the arena through the main entrance of the school gate were holding matchets, began to dismantle the canopies, destroying electoral materials and chairs.

The fierce attitude of the unknown bare body young men had propelled the delegates and other PDP officials scampered for safety.

Amongst those who ran for their safety include: the chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Felix Obuah, the Director of Finance and Administration in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Henry Ogiri, and other party chieftains.

The policemen who were there to secure the delegates during the primary were unable to protect them, as the hoodlums invaded the venue.

Information reaching our news desk had it that, the NDDC Director escaped by jumping over a fence and took a motor bike and vamoose.

It would be recalled that four (4) aspirants were contesting the Rivers West Senatorial seat in the upper Chamber of the National Assembly. They are Chief Chibudom Nwuche, Osinakachukwu Ideozu, Opu-Ada Pepple and Chief David-Briggs.

Our correspondent reported that some of the delegates and other party officials sustained serious injuries during the ugly incident.

Meanwhile only 5 out of the 24 gubernatorial aspirants that were cleared to contest the governorship election on the platform of the PDP were present during the guber primary of the party on Monday. The PDP guber primary took place at the Government Community Secondary School, Nkpolu, Mile 3 in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The five (5) aspirants that were present at the primary are: Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, Chief Ibinabo Micheal West, Engr. Lee Maeba, Dumbari Dimkpa and Engr. T. Geoergewill. The reason why the other 19 guber aspirants refused to participate in the primary was not known as at the time of filing in this report, but sources hinted this weekly that they (19 aspirants) were no happy with the way and the manner in which the ward congresses were conducted. ###
