The Chairman of Arewa Council of Chiefs in the South-South and South-East zones, Alhaji Isa Madaki, has called on Muslims resident in the Southern part of Nigeria to stop fleeing their homes.
Speaking to our correspondent in Port Harcourt recently after a special prayer session for peace in the country, Madaki said rumours of impending attacks on Muslims resident in the South were false.
He described as unfortunate, killings in some states in the northern parts of Nigeria and stressed that Islam forbade such killings.
He urged Muslims resident in the South South and South East not to panic because their hosts were peaceful and that God would intervene to stop the problems in the country.
Madaki said Muslims in Rivers State organized the special prayer session for God to intercede solving the problems facing the nation.
‘God knows why this is happening and He knows that one day it will stop. But it is for us human beings to get to God.” Madaki said God would assist to ensure that peace returned to all the troubled spots in the country and urged people to desist from spreading false information capable of breaching the peace and stability of the country.
The Chief Imam of Diobu Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulsalam Suleiman said Muslims in the south were worried about security challenges facing the nation.
“That is why we have called for these special prayers to beg God to bring peace to the country.”
“We have begged God to be with the President and other leaders to show them the goodwill to rule us. We also prayed that Nigerians will see reason to love one another and live peacefully as members of one family. ###
