2014 LG Polls: Rivers Politicians Begins Campaign

Indications are emerging from the different quarters of the state that the 3years tenure of current chief executives of local government administration in Rivers will end in April 2014 and making the way for fresh LG polls.

In some quarters also, preparations are in top gears on how to occupy the juicy office with contestants gathering and convening meetings to clear their coast for formal declaration.

Some who spoke to “The Newswriter” are capitalizing on the current political crisis in the state as a peremeter for the governor’s inability to impose any candidate on the people.

Amaechi Kingdom Uchechi attributed the non performance of most of the present council chairmen to their imposition by the governor.

Uchechi blames the underdevelopment at the grassroot to the governor’s inability to check and caution the chairmen on corruption.

“We are preparing for next year’s local government election expected to come up in April, as we can no longer wait for the imposition of the governor.

“His rascality in imposing chairman onus had cause us poor development at the grassroot.”

Another, Georgewill Amaehuile, contend that the governor should think less of his action of 2011 when he clipped the wings of all for his selfish reason, saying, now that people have seen his antics, it shall be no more business as before.

“We have now known the governors antics and what he intends to achieve with his chairmen, so we are ready not to accept what transpired in the 2011 election.

On the readiness of the state independent electoral commission, RSIEC, the duo who spoke to our correspondent report that the commission is constitutionally required to work according to laid down rules.

According to them, they believe the commission is working, so may soon commence the process. But while waiting for the commission, they thought it necessary to start early preparation, the source revealed.

It could be recalled that two local governments area, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni and Degema will not be participating in next year’s election since they have to complete their three year tenure. The election in the area was held later than the other 21 LGA’s

Meanwhile, the populace expresses the fear of the governor using caretaker committees until the end of his tenure as governor. ###
