Boko Haram: Police Ends Security Sensitization Workshop In PH

The chairman, Nigeria Hotel Association NHA, Rivers State, Mr. Eugene Nwauzi has drawn the attention of the Rivers State Government to the ongoing multiple taxation on Hotels in the state, by some ministries of the government, describing the development as one that would run-down many hospitality business in the state, if not properly and urgently checked.

Nwauzi who spoke to newsmen after a one day security sensitization workshop of the Nigerian Police, Rivers State command at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, advocated for a unified tax system on Hotels in the state, than different ministries visiting hotels for the same purpose of taxation.

The hotel boos, however commended the Nigeria police on the security sensitization workshop that have taught the participants on the types and dangers of Improvised Explosives Devices I.E.Ds and promised to relate the knowledge acquired at the workshop to friends, family members and his association in particular.

Earlier, SP Taiwo Akingbehin whose lecture centred on Improvised Explosives Devices, gave a through insight on some of the devices, which include: Time bomb and types, detonators, power source (battries) and booby traps among others, added that there is always a switch in every detonator or bomb, while urging the public to always be vigilant and report any strange object around them to the police.

Presenting his lecture on information Management, CSP Felix Oben, OC Intelligence, described lack of information and education as bane to the management of security in Nigeria. He further noted that gathering places or business places are now the target for bombing by the terrorists in order to kill as many people as possible.

His words: “any small information or thing one knows that will help the police to do their work is information. Police needs information to manage security. Anything that one will do to protect lives and property is security.

“Information is useful but dangerous as it is also explosive. People should know whom they share information with and to share information on time”, he added.

SP Esah, OC Marine, Rivers State, called for the deployment of intelligence officers to police the waterways, in order to tackle the menace of sea miscreants, while calling on Rivers State government and private individuals to partner with the marine sector of the Rivers police command, through the provision of marine boats and all the necessary tools that are needed to facilitate their job, for effectiveness, as done in Lagos by government and private individuals.

Other participants that spoke with journalists at the event include: Deacon Kenneth Eze, chairman, Mile 1 Market Traders Association, Port Harcourt and Epeye Sunday chairman, Okrika Boat Association among others. ###
