Women Focus: Gov. Wike Is Gender Friendly

Nyesom-WikeGovernor Nyesom Wike is indeed a father and a husband. It is not always hard to know a good man by the way and manner in which he handles issues.

When a man has good plans for his family, you will know by how he positions things.

The choosing of Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo as Deputy Governor by Gov. Wike was an indication that Gov. Wike have good intention for the women of Rivers State.

For the first time since the creation of Rivers State in the year 1967, a woman is attaining the position of a Deputy Governor. It has been men throughout because those were the people that the cap fit. Not until Gov. Wike came into power to change the tradition that a mother is needed in the home.

The past administrators of Rivers State never recognized the presence of women as people that can run this state with them even if women were appointed into position of power, it was not the highest level of decision making.

Gov. Wike is indeed a man to reckon with his administration because he has the interest of everybody at heart. No wonder God has been backing him in everything he does, because he has the mind which was in Christ Jesus according to Phil. 2:5.

The Bible says “When a righteous man rules the people rejoice”. In Wike government, the women are rejoicing because they have long been forgotten but as Gov. Wike came into power, women’s hope has been restored.

The judiciary is the one arm of the government that wouldn’t have remembered women as a Chief Judge of this great state but because a man that knows the important and power of a woman took over, he changes the entire old page of the judiciary that other past administrations have been reading by appointing Hon. Justice Daisy Okocha as the first female Chief Judge. What no other governor had done since the inception of Rivers State for forty-Eight (48) years ago.

Governor Wike in his usual gender caring manner did not stop at the appointment of Hon. Justice Daisy Okocha as the first female Chief Judge in Rivers State but also on her retirement appointed by Hon. Justice A. I. Iyayi Lamikanra as the second female Acting Chief Judge of Rivers State.

As if Gov. Nyesom Wike was not satisfied with the appointment of the first and second female Chief Judge of Rivers State, Hon. Justice Hon. Justice Daisy Okocha and Hon. Justice A. I. Iyaye Lamikanra respectively, he went ahead despite all odds to also appoint Hon. Justice Christiana I. Gabriel-Nwankwo as the Acting President Customary Court of Appeal, Rivers State. Gov. Wike is a history changer and gender friendly.

It takes only a man with the heart of God to make a woman being equal with him.

The judicial duties as seen by the past governments are not the duty of women, a woman will only support or contribute their quota but cannot head such a prestigious, challenging, tasking responsibility, maybe because woman education ends in the kitchen, but Gov. Wike had proven them wrong, that what a man can do a woman can do even more better.

Recently, Gov. Nyesom Wike donated buses to the Federation International of Women Lawyers to serve as logistic needs saying female lawyers were exposed to risks while attending the last NBA National conference in hired buses which broken down occasionally.

Wike in his good gesture did not forget the widows of the fallen heroes during this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day when he redeemed the pledge made to them to enhance the economic wellbeing of 300 widows by cash donation across the 23 LGAs of Rivers State. Gov. Wike is a husband to the widows and father to the fatherless.

This is to mention but just few, Gov. Wike has also appointed alots of women into position of authority in the ministries.

The government recognizes that when women is given a chance in position, such government will be successful because if a mother can go to work, from work to market, from house to prepare meal for the family and take care of the children and her husband, last to go to bed and first to wake up without falling apart then, she can also take of any position of responsibility.

The women of Rivers through the Women Focus is using this medium to tell Gov. Wike thank you for your fatherly love. ###
