Local Government Councils Charged To Promote Entrepreneurship Development

The Rector, Rivers State Polytechnic Bori, Prof. Tokubiye Sokari has advocated that Local Government Councils should look into the area of entrepreneurship development, especially in carpentry, welding, catering, hair dressing and information technology as this is the only panacea to tackle the issue of youth unemployment.
Prof. Tokubiye sokari, gave the charge while speaking as Guest Speaker at the closing ceremony of the Okrika Local Government Council sponsored “Back to School” programme at the Council Secretariat.
Prof. Sokari remarked that functional education entails interpreting the horizon of the thinking of the people.
He emphasized that, the Okrika Local Government Council has introduced a new thing in Local Government Administration as this programme, “Back to School” can stimulate rapid human capital development.
Prof. Sokari stated that Quality Education needed to be embraced to help redeem the back lash of underdevelopment in the area.
He praised the Chairman of Okrika Local Government Council, Barr. Tamuno Williams for setting the pace for structural functional education in the LGA as this is capable of transforming the area.
Earlier, the chairman of Okrika Local Government Council, Hon. (Barr) Tamuno Williams pledged the commitment of the Walga Council to interface with relevant government agencies to ensure the lofty ideals of His Excellency Rt. I-ion. Chibuike Amaechi’s drive for qualitative education is achieved.
Tamuno Williams stated that in furthering the aspirations of the people of Okrika, the Council reasoned that Okrika has a lot to do in addressing qualitative education, therefore the need for a quiz and debate competition for students in the LGA in order for them to face the challenges of tomorrow.
He pointed out that in years past, Okrika had set backs, therefore education becomes a catalyst to resolve these setbacks experienced in the past.
The Chairman of Walga emphasized that preparing the teachers intellectually who in turn would teach the children the right values of transformation and development for greater horizon is the prime focus of his administration in relation to capacity building.
He used the occasion to announce that the 1st Walga Council sponsored Summer Classes was a huge success as the monumental feat of that programme is still vibrating across the length and breadth of the state.
He added that, Okrika Local Government Council has recorded successes in the area of ITC training for UTME candidates from Okrika with over 60% of these candidates successful at the just concluded UTME examination.
Tamuno Williams further said, .Okrika Local Government Council has concluded plans to pay bursary to students of Okrika origin in institutions of higher learning before December, 14, 2011 and the award of scholarship to 12 persons, one each for the 12 wards in the LGA with the start of scholarship to two students this year.
The Chairman remarked that Walga Council is to hold a day of thanksgiving and prayer in December which would take place in Port Harcourt to extol the blessings and achievements Okrikans have received from God in the past years.
He enjoined all Okrikans to be part of the transformational drive to move Okrika forward as to him Okrika has indeed risen again. ###
