RSG Commends Abua/Odual Chairman For Tackling Flood Problems

Rivers State government has commended chairman of Abua/Odual Local Government Area Hon. Udi Odum for ensuring proper coordination and distribution of relief materials to flood victims in the local government.
The state Deputy governor and the chairman of the Rivers State flood committee, Engr. Tele Ikuru made the commendation while inspecting the five camps set up in the council area, noting that there has not been any record of death in the camp, expressing satisfaction that issues affecting the victims are given urgent attention, adding that the equitable distribution of the relief materials as a major mandate of the committee cannot be over-emphasized.
Engr. Ikuru stated that the safety of lives in all the camps was a big relief to the state government, as the people have exhibited high level of maturity in coordinating themselves without engaging in any form of violence.
According to him, of the 6453 persons in the five camps, 580 are non indigenes of the affected communities occupying the fifth camp, assuring them of proper attention. He charged them to cooperate with the camp managers in making sure that peace is maintained in their camps.
Speaking the representative of Abua/Odual LGA chairman Hon. Udi Odum noted that entire Odua and eight communities in Abua were affected.
He further stated that he has been able to manage the situation successfully through direct interaction with the victims and ensuring that their needs are speedily attended to.
He said that separate provisions were made for pregnant women and children considering their delicate conditions, adding that plans on how to tackle the post flood situation are being considered by the council. ###
