Refrain From Editorializing – Semenitari

Information and Communications boss, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has tasked members of the Federated Correspondents Chapel to refrain from editorializing.  The Commissioner made this statement when members of the Chapel paid her a courtesy visit in her office. According to her “as Journalists we must make sure that we stick to 80 per cent objectivity and the basic tenets of fairness, accuracy and balanced reporting and refrain from editorializing”.

Mrs. Semenitari advised them to seek opportunities for training that would help them on ethical conduct in their reporting, adding “we as journalists must not take sides but show clearly where we stand upholding the truth in our profession”. She promised to support the chapel to enhance the discharge of their duties.

Earlier the Chairman of the Chapel Mr. Ernest Chinwo appreciated the Commissioner and the Ministry for giving them audience. He said the reasons for the visit is to introduce themselves as the new elected exco of the Chapel and also seek collaboration and assistance.

He noted that the Chapel would uphold truth and report factually at all times. The Secretary, Mr. Amaechi Okonkwo on behalf of the chapel thanked the Hon. Commissioner for assuring to support to the chapel.
