Group challenged To Advocate Okrikans Right In Phalga

The Port Harcourt Wakirike Development Frontiers, PHWDF, Ogu/Bolo chapter a community based organization last week paid a courtesy visit to Chief Jonah Tamuno Furubowari, a Commissioner Rivers State Civil Service Commission in his office.

The secretary general of organization, Comr. Alapakabia Tobin led the delegation.

The organization charged the commissioner to continue to uphold the Unity, oneness and progress of the people in the area no matter the political interest as a traditional icon of the people thanking him for the acceptance of the visit describing his leadership in the Ogu/Bolo Council of Chiefs as a symbol of unity and wealth of wisdom.

In his response speech the Chief Tamuno charged the organization to be focused and advocate the traditional rights of the Wakirike people in Port Harcourt, adding the position of the Wakirike people in Phalga politics has not been proved beyond reasonable doubt owing the achievements of their ancestors in the ownership of Port Harcourt.

The Commissioner further stressed the need for the organization to strengthen traditional institutions of the Wakirike people in Port Harcourt to formally partake in the activities of Phalga considering the agreement of 1913 between the Rebisi and the Wakirike people.

In the same development, Chief Jonah urged the organization to engage in door to door campaign in collaboration with the leadership of the Port Harcourt Aborigine under the leadership of Chief Darrick Acheseomie and other political, economic and traditional leaders of the area to establish the position of Wakirike people in the Port Harcourt metropolis. ###
