Governor Amaechi Wants Muslims To Fight Boko Haram

GOV. AMAECHI ROTIMIThe Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has charged Muslim Community in Rivers State to unite and fight against the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

Governor Amaechi gave the charge while addressing a cross section of Muslim community in the state when they paid him a courtesy visit in Government House during the celebration Eid –Fitri on Monday in Port Harcourt.

Governor Amaechi who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru condemned the insurgence attack on people, noted that there is need for Muslims across the nation to be in one accord to fight the Boko Haram to a stand still.

He however, congratulated them on their peaceful celebration.

Earlier in his address, Alhaji Nasire Awhelebe Uhor, the Rivers State Islamic leader and Vice President General Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Rivers State chapter who said the Muslims in the state join brothers and sisters in the country to celebrate the Eld-el fitri festival which marks the end of the month long Ramadan fast commended Governor Amaechi for his magnanimity for approving their request for the visit.

The Muslims leader who lamented the evil activities of the Boko Haram said, “we join all other well meaning Muslims and non Muslims alike, to totally condemn the terrorists, their activities and all what they stand for”.

According to him, “how on earth can the wanton, wholesome and gruesome massacre of innocent Muslims alike equate religion”. Alhaji Awhelebe Uhor further stressed that the growing political tension across the country fuelled by the high profile perfidy and impunity has not helped matters and called for sober reflections.

He noted that Governor Amaechi’s administration does not take it light in the issue of security in the state and condemned threats to peace and security in the state.

The Muslim leader who used the ceremony to hint Governor Amaechi on the issue burdening Muslims reminded him that two years after complaining to him about the unjust and highly provocative takeover of the Muslims section of the Port Harcourt Cemetery by the former Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon. Chimbiko Akaralo, the Muslims in the sate are still denied access and the use of the over-grown Muslims Cemetery, adding that the result was that the Muslims in the state are forced to go as far as Eleme LGA to bury their dead and appealed to Governor Amaechi to intervene to avoid crisis.

He appealed to Governor Amaechi to provide their leader Alhaji Nasir Uhor with vehicle for easy transportation.###
