Alabo And The Call For Hell Fire Over Wike

A chieftain of the Niger Delta and member of the Peoples Democratic Party in the State was quoted in the media in the past week to have threatened Armageddon in the State and blow up oil wells, if an lkwerre man wins the 2015 gubernatorial elections.

Not surprising any way. The chief is wont to making most inflammatory remarks and virulent media attacks almost daily particularly on the state executives of the party over what he calls due process.

Whatever are his grievances such war mongering bleats that border on security threats and impetuous remarks are positions quite inconsistent with the requirement of his status as a chief and an elder in the society.

While we struggle to check the excesses of anarchists and lawless youths in society, we regard such unguarded outbursts from a chief and elder as most inconceivable and condemnable. Who then will lead the war to hell. Sons and daughters of other parents?

It is quite unfortunate that some politicians are often driven into frenzy by political indulgences that they lose sight of morality and the roles attached to their statuses as leaders and role models.

Such statements are as unacceptable and condemnable as the demonic ranting of northern leaders as Junaid Muhammed and Buhari, who threatened mayhem in Nigeria, if Jonathan wins the 2015 presidential election. Maybe they and their children will lead the war to the destruction of the country.

Elsewhere faceless and relevance seeking individuals posing as Niger Delta activists and run away patriots in league with aggrieved party members, have deployed the demonic template of media attacks and scare mongering in their bid to whittle down Wike’s rising profile as the only man on ground.

After junketing to Abuja with monstrous and frivolous petitions against Wike and Obuah where they were disgraced, they have since returned to Port Harcourt battle ready for another spate of Saber-rattling extravaganza.

In Nigeria today there is no problem that is peculiar to any political party, state or ethnic nationality. Succession disputes are everywhere.

Whatever are the grievances a true party member is expected to come a round table with colleagues and find amicable solutions to problems. But some of you carry on as though you were sponsored to destroy the party.

While Obuah and Wike etc, are using their careers and resources to build, promote and protect the party from opponents, you accredited sick babies are using the party to promote yourselves, going to air to eke cheap popularity and romancing with opponents to destroy it.

Some of them who have been in exile or political wilderness and have not contributed in any way to the survival of the party especially against the backdrop of the current APC opposition, have since emerged from the blues like bellicose gadflies trying to reap where they did not saw.

Others have morphed into political white wash walls and sepulchers, scorned and rejected even by their own people because of their unserious stance.

Whether the candidate comes from the upland or riverine area is the party’s decision. But one fact is clear. PDP requires a serious minded candidate to lead the party to war and not aspirants and party chieftains that exist only on bill boards, posters and the media; no followership, no home base, no structure.

The bottom-line is that there is no party, ethnic nationality, state or local council where such problems do not manifest. And no person could claim that he is more aggrieved than any other. What is required is show of maturity and responsibility in tackling the issue and not a public posturing that smacks of militancy especially from chiefs and elders. ####
