Business Tycoon In Rivers Commends Jonathan, Others

A business tycoon in Rivers State, Mr. Nimi Michael Fubara, has joined millions of well-meaning Nigerians to commend President Goodluck Jonathan over the level of preparation to secure lives and properties in the country.
Fubara who also is the chairman of Iloabuchi Diobu Multi-purpose Timber Association, Port Harcourt, spoke to this medium in an interview in his office over the weekend. He said President Jonathan has done extremely well in replacing the former Inspector General (IG) of Police with Mohammed Abubakar as the cap fits him to wear.
He viewed that President Jonathan had assessed how productivity of the nation’s public sector came to the fore recently as about 75 percent of police activities have been adjudged to be below average.
The chairman asserted that the understanding of the country’s number one, of the import and impact of a secure business and social attainment of the country’s full potentials, underscores the inclusion of security as one of the cardinal concerns of his administration.
He held the view that Nigeria police force being the primary and constitutional mechanism to ensure public safety, has to receive remarkable attention of the president’s administration to position the police on the part of efficiency and effectiveness.
The business tycoon noted that over the years, the NPF which is saddled with the responsibility of policing Nigeria, have been afflicted by fundamental problems which affected the performance of its constitutional duties.
“Attempt have been made in the past”, he said, “to examine these problems with a view to reforming the NPF, but unfortunately these attempts have failed to yield the required results as the force and the perception of the populace of its image have rather continued to nose dive with obvious security collapse in the country. Public safety and security as well as law and order, increasingly deteriorate with a heightening of public concern as it affects the security of lives and properties.
“Worried by the disturbing trend in the NPF, President Jonathan thereby instituted a change in the rank and file of the force,” he noted.
The chairman called on the federal government to establish a presidential committee on the reform of NPF and review previous reports of government white paper on the reorganization of NPF.
He also begged Jonathan to equip the police with sophisticated amenities and weapons to enable then face the hoodlums negative activities in the country.
In the same vein, Fubara lauded the governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi since he came on board as the governor of the state with his able deputy Engr. Tele Ikuru.
His words, “Without peace and security no administration can be successful. Peace is also the main ingredient for development. This is why Amaechi attached great importance to peace and achieved great success in this regard. His positive steps to ensure peaceful co-existence in the state can be noticed by any right thinking individual.”
He enjoined the governments to provide adequate salary structure and equip the police very well to enable them perform creditably.
Furthermore, he lauded the performances of the Opobo/Nkoro executive chairman, Mr. MacLean Uranta, who he said has actually brought the effect and benefit of governance nearer the people at the grassroots in terms of economic planning and development of the area.
He gave instances where previous council chieftains have abandoned their basic duties but for the physical existence of their offices, but the incumbent chairman has embarked on the idea of creating the LGA by bringing the effects and benefits of governance nearer the people and making them see and feel the existence of government.
“There is no more groaning bickering and exasperation because Uranta is responsible to his duties. He has a lot of vision to redeem security.
Fubara pleaded with the leaders and general public to give the trio adequate support to enable them provide good security.
“You cannot enter Opobo town without being molested by the miscreants, but that has been a thing of the past since Uranta took over the mantle. He has brought peace and tranquility to the town and the LGA in general,” he said.. ###
