Bonny Youth Leader Set to Tackle Youth Unemployment … Calls For Reconstitution of Employment Outfits in Bonny

The leader of Bonny Youths Federation, (BYF) Comrade Gift Furo Hart said he is more than prepared to tackle the issue of youth unemployment in Bonny Island.
To this end, he has called on the executive chairman of Bonny Local government council, Hon. Barr. Edward Ebenezer Pepple and the Bonny chiefs council to urgently reconstitute the Bonny Integrated Recruitment Center and the Bonny Employment Monitoring team, if there is any hope of saving Bonny youths from untold hardship caused by persistent unemployment on the island.
Mr. Furo made this assertion in the wake of continued neglect by relevant authorities in charge of employment in the area. He observed that youths make up more than 69 percent of people living in the kingdom, but however regretted that Bonny youths have continued to reel in abject poverty and neglect even in the face of glaring employment opportunities in companies operating in the area.
He condemned situations where employment agencies totally overlook the terms of reference for employments and appointments in the community to pursue personal agenda at the detriment of youths and people of the host community.
The Bonny number one youth has therefore cautioned that denying youths employment slots that obviously exist can spark up civil unrest in the area.
According to him, “the situation in Bonny can be likened to a time bomb waiting to explode, and if nothing is done in that direction to change the trend, everyone might live to regret the consequences”.
Comrade Furo who had earlier attended a meeting with the Bonny Chiefs Council where they promised to nip the problem in the bud, emphasized the need for the chiefs council to keep to promises made in a recent meeting held, by making efforts to liaise seriously with government with a view to reforming the entire employment system that is presently bereft of ideas in the kingdom.
He also called on multinational oil giant shell to ensure it kept to promises made when representatives of the youth federation met with them on February 22. 2012, to ensure continued peace in the community.
