RSUST Set To Convocate 3,541 Graduands … Honours Ajumogobia

All is now set for the convocation ceremony of graduands of 2010-2011 academic session of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST.
In a chat with journalists at the senate chamber of the University campus Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, the vice chancellor of the institution, Prof. Barineme Fakae, hinted that a total number of 3,541 graduands would receive certificates at the convocation arena on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
According to him, a breakdown of the figures indicates that 3,219 graduands will receive first degree, 85 post graduates, diplomas, 215 masters and 22 PHD or Doctorate degree, adding that 3 graduands will receive first class, 319 second class lower, 1,210 third class, while 42 graduands will receive pass honours.
Professor Fakae further disclosed that the major highlight of the day will be the conferment of honorary degree on one distinguished Nigerian, Hon. Barr. Henry Odein Ajumogobia, SAN, OFR, the former minister of Foreign Affairs and one time commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Rivers State for his contributions to nation development.
According to him, “the honour list in any university is usually reserved for outstanding achievers whose contributions could easily be verified on any measure of merit. For this 24th convocation, the council and senate of this university identified one Nigeria of high public reputation and impeccable character for the award of honorary doctorate degree in law (Honoris causa) in recognition of exemplary public conduct and contribution to national development. He is Hon. Henry Odein Ajumogobia, SAN OFR”.
He congratulated the senate of the institution for approving the award.
Commenting on the criticism against the institution such as none accreditation of most courses, none completion of some projects, neglect of some persons, among others by critics, Prof. Fakae denied all the accusations stressing that the movement of the RSUST is like a mountain that could not be stopped. ###
