De Dorcas Academy Launches School Bus … As Mrs. Kadiloo Brown Urges School Children’s Safety

A popular academy in Port Harcourt, De Dorcas Academy located at Ogbunabali on Saturday August 4, 2012, launched her school bus amongst other activities.
During the programme the proprietress of the school, Miss Dorcas Famaa in her welcome address, commented on the brief history of the school with its focus on establishing and sustaining it as a modern nursery and primary school catering for the academic proficiency of children of school age with emphasis on character moulding, academic excellence and diligence, amongst others.
The proprietress noted that in its short but eventful history, testimonies already abound as to the character of the pupils and their academic efforts. According to her, even the parents and guardians of the school children are the ones testifying to the rapid rate of development in the pupils which she says goes a long way to prove how hard the school management works to sustain their call to duty.
On the main issue of the day which was the launching of the school bus, Miss Dorcas noted that the need for a school bus arose consequent upon the high rate of crimes in the society now, some of which include ritual killings, kidnapping and abducting of school children, etc.
She further stressed that during the rainy season parents often find it difficult to bring their children to school. Based on such challenges therefore, the amiable proprietress stated that the new policy of the school is to henceforth convey children directly from the comfort of their homes, no matter the distance, straight to the school and back home. She emphasized that immediately the child steps into the bus it automatically means that he/she becomes the responsibility of the school authorities till he or she is brought back.
The chairman of the occasion, Hon. Legborsi Nwidada, was full of praises to God for empowering the proprietress of De Dorcas Academy with ample wisdom, knowing that when children are properly taken care of and secured, the hope for a better society tomorrow is guaranteed, pointing out that nothing compels parents to send their children and wards to school other than safety, sound doctrines and proper academic pursuits.
He therefore advised parents not to waste time in sending their children to the De Dorcas Academy while praying God to continue to give the proprietress the sustaining wisdom to run the school.
In the same vein, Mrs. Kadilo Brown, Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs in Rivers State, stressed the overwhelming need for a bus in a school like this as it guarantees safety, adding that school children in some areas have had to run into the cold hands of death because there was no such facility to take them to and fro school.
Mrs. Kadiloo Brown who was represented by Mrs. Nwifa said, ”Every school’s ambition is to own a delivery bus or buses so as to avoid ugly incidences or unforeseen circumstances, but as all hands are not equal and Miss Dorcas has been able to secure one, it becomes imperative for her to keep the flag flying as God Almighty has purposed to do great things for this generation through her.”
The father of the day Mr. Kaananwi Peter, thanked God for the plan of the school and the wisdom God had bestowed on the proprietress, Miss Dorcas, asking parents to support the school so that the goals for which the school was established would be actualized.
On their own Pastor and Mrs. Uzomba, advised Miss Dorcas to hold unto God in all her endeavours as God never forsakes all those who diligently seek Him, counseling that if the foundation is built on the Lord, she will definitely excel in all her efforts.
Not left out among those that graced the occasion were the Progressive Daughters of Ogoni, a body of progressive sisters of which the proprietress is a member represented by sister Blessing Uelee and Sister Edith Friday who equally thanked God for the good initiative by Sister Dorcas, praying that the good Lord who has started a good thing in the life of their sister will bring it to a finish.
In a chat with newsmen at the end of the programme, the proprietress said the vision for opening the school was to help the less-privileged whose parents were incapable of paying the huge amount paid in big private schools. She also thanked God for the day saying that all was the Lord’s doing.
She advised young ladies like her to make sure they pursue their visions and not to relent as God will always help them achieve it. ###
