Rivers State has a new Police Commissioner now in the person of Mr. Joseph Mbu. The new Police Commissioner before now was incharge of Oyo State Police command.

During the handover ceremony by the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Indabawa at the Rivers State Police Command Headquarters, Moscow Road, on the 20th of February 2013.

The outgoing CP handed over the baton of leadership to the incoming CP Mbu Joseph Mbu.

Indabawa, commended the press and the entire people of Rivers State, for the cooperation given to him in his eleven months of stay as Commissioner of Police, Rivers State police command and appealed that the same cooperation given to him be extended the new CP. Mohammed Indabawa has been deployed to Oyo State to take charge of that state police command.

Mbu promised to work with the CPRC in strengthening its operations.

The PCRC Chairman, Mr. Austin Young said the outgoing CP was a good man, but the Committee does not have no power to retain him. He promised that they will give the new CP all the needed support for him to succeed.

Addressing the press, the new CP that the police work is the same everywhere, the only thing that varies is the working style, I will like to work in the style of my predecessor, stating from where he has lift the job to his new place of assignment.

Discipline in the police is our watchword, noting that he would not condone indiscipline in the Rivers Police Command. Any police man caught in any act of indisciplined will be discipline accordingly, maintaining that no policeman should be seen with shabby (indecent) dress.

He urged the police officers during his tenure not to dabble into civil cases (matters). He warned that Rivers State Police Command under his leadership will not compromise recklessness. Tinted glasses are banned from the state pointing out that the only persons authorized to go on tinted glasses are the state governor and his deputy.

He also said that the use of siren is limited to state governor, his deputy and the speaker and commanders of the various forces commands, except during emergency occasion of fire out break and the ambulance, pointing out that legally the ambulance and the fire service alone are authorized to use siren.

Nobody in the state is authorized to move about with unregistered plate number.

He therefore appealed to the press and the entire Rivers public to cooperate with his team as to produce good result, urging the press to write good things about the police for the sacrifice they make each day to secure lives and property, sometimes they sleep inside their vehicle to keep the work going instead of sleeping in their houses with comfort.

He pinpointed that the press should not come and plead for criminals, If according to him any robbery suspect is caught pointing gun at any policeman, he will not spare such fellow because if he spares such a robber, he kill him, so such robber must be killed.

He added that but if any robbery or criminal suspect surrender to the police peacefully on his own good, such robber or criminal will be spared because the police will respect human right. He stated.

Though, he emphasized that any robbery suspect who is seen with a gun is considered a killer and will be followed up like a killer, because such person have the intention to kill. ###
