Vandalism: NSCDC Nabs 2 Suspects In FCT

The Corps Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ade Abolurin, has urged personnel of the agency not to be discouraged in their drive to fight vandalism in the country.

He made the appeal  following last week’s incident in Lagos in which two officials were allegedly  murdered ,with  several others were injured.

After four pipeline vandals were caught by men of the NSCDC siphoning fuel, eyewitnesses and the NSCDC spokesman said the officers were ambushed and killed by police officers who seemed to be cooperating with the vandals.

One wounded officer also said that the vandals made several phone calls to police officers before they opened fire on an NSCDC patrol van.

The police later forced Olanrenju Gbedeogun, an officer of the NSCDC, to sign a bogus confession implicating the corps in the incident.

In his nationwide address to NSCDC personnel, Dr. Abolurin reiterated the corps’ readiness to combat the activities of vandals and other forms of crimes, urging his officers not to be deterred by any form of intimidation and oppression.

He drew their attention to the mandate of the NSCDC, as well as the oath of allegiance and dedication taken by officers to serve their motherland, adding that they should shun temptations of corruption and compromise.

Also today, the FCT Command of the Corps, in collaboration with the Jiwa Chiefdom, arrested two suspects, Babano Bala and Babangida Ibrahim, of Jiwa village.

The two persons were said to have been  caught in the early hours of Monday morning vandalizing the feeder transformer located within Jiwa town. Items recovered from them included 18 Jerrycans of 30 liters filled with mercury oil; 10 empty jerrycans; and a Volvo car, A6ER cooler truck with registration number Kogi XC 182 IK. The suspects were taken to the Upper Area Court Jiwa for prosecution.

According to the FCT Commandant of the Corps, Aminu Abdullahi Kofar Soro, his men will ensure that in line with the directive of the Commandant General, every activity of vandals within FCT shall be nipped in the bud.

He warned all criminal-minded persons and vandals, in their own interest, to stop or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law when caught.
