The Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State Chapter, Hon. Ibibia Walter has said that, Rivers People are behind president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan come 2015, if he declares to run for a second term in office as president.
Walter further noted that whether Governor Amaechi defects to another political party or not, the people of the state will support president Jonathan as Amaechi cannot foils the chances of the south-south on a second tenure bid.
While appealing for members of the party to remain calm, he reaffirms the peoples support for peace and unity in the party, saying that his position as secretary in the party cannot be used by selfish individuals to drag the party to the mud in whatever guise.
Walter however regretted governor Amaechi’s decision to take the party into several litigations bearing in mind he is the leader of the party in the state.
According to Walter, substituting vice-president for presidency is not acceptable and will not be allowed to succeed.
“As a matter of fact, internal party matters are not new. It happens in every states and nations.
“Governor Amaechi problem with the party is not the first and cannot be the last. But a situation where somebody knows what to do and understand the direction of the people you are leading, your subjecting the party into several litigations that does not represent the mandate of the party members.
“Remember, your working hard for the south-south to replace president with vice president. And those who are not in support of President Goodluck election come 2015, having seen the zeal in you and using you to kill the ambition of the south-south and you are using Rivers people money to frustrate the people chances. But Governor Amaechi should also remember that the wife of the president Mrs. Patience Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a daughter of Rivers State, so she too has a stake and must work hard to ensure the return of her husband whether you like it or not. So I advise the governor to use the best option to resolve the issues for record purposes. ###
